My Photoshop Fix


Every now and then I get an order or find a really good image I’d like to retouch to keep my skills up where they should be. It’s been quiet order-wise, so I headed to Google to see what I could find.

Normally, ModelMayhem is the place to go for any RAW images to work on. But lately, everyone is asking that everyone else ask for the images they want. I’d rather go through and pick what I want, not have to wait a day or two. So in this case, Google Image Search pulled me this image:


 I love working on portraits. So I decided to take this one to my chop block. My first issue I had was the acne. No biggy, easy fix. Then I softened her skin. My next problem was the skin tone. Her skin seemed washed out and uneven…so I took swatches of her tones and applied a gradient map, color mode at 25% and got something much nicer, I think.


Now I could have stopped here, but I really wanted this image to pop. So I whitened and desaturated her teeth and the whites of her eyes, blurred the background, touched up her forehead a little more and then really got down to business with some recoloring and working with contrasts, dodge and burn.
